Sustainable Harvest for Children
With your help, we will be able to purchase farmland to feed the kids in our programs at Young and Empowered, and feed more kids!
About Sustainable Harvest for Children (SHC)
This project aims to purchase 30 acres (12 hectares) of land to be used as a farm for growing food. Through this initiative, we will increase enrollment number from 150 to more than 500 children within the first two growing seasons. We will decrease our costs and dependency on external donors, bring in revenue to the ministry, and expand the number of Afterschool Programs that we host.
Our Vision
To purchase farmland in Lunzu, and cultivate a corn, vegetables, and fruits. This farm will do more than fill plates, it is a long-term solution to food shortages in our Feeding Program.
Why does it matters?
Without a reliable source of healthy food, our children’s potential is limited. By growing our own food, we can:
✅ Provide daily nutritious meals for children.
✅ Lower long-term food costs and increase food security.
✅ Teach sustainable farming and life skills to our children.
✅ Create a resilient community resource for years to come.

Meet Chifundo (Program Director)
I was born in a less privileged home in Malawi. For me, learning was a fragile privilege, and food was never guaranteed. That hunger for a brighter future shaped my journey. I graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Malawi in 2022, and served as the Afterschool Program Coordinator for Young and Empowered Malawi until my coming to the US in August 2025. My purpose is rooted in my past, to ensure that children in our program have a better story.
A story where they are fed, empowered, and free to dream. I wake each day with a clear mission, to rewrite the stories of the children in our care.
I want their memories to be filled with nourishment, safety, and possibility not hunger and hardship. This farming initiative is more than a project to me. It is a promise that together, we can sow seeds of change and harvest futures where every child is fed, empowered, and free to thrive. Your support can help turn that promise into their reality.
